Late night doodle

Ah, these guys kept me up past my bed time. Usually they want me (and everyone else) asleep! How else are they gonna feed on our slothful energies? Ah well, at least it was fun zombifying through it.

I dunno about those tentacles or "feelers" draping off its snout, though.

And yet another Snailien

Blah, just blah... Feels like I have a long ways to go before this guy is actually finished. But I'm so sick of it at this point that I'm calling it done. So there!

WIP Alt Version

Ok I got carried away, but in a good way. I wanted to copy/paste a portion of the work since my working file is about 100 megs which was slowing my computer down. It had like, 30329 layers. I was only working with 2 at the moment so I transfered it onto another file and well, it's head was missing since I was working on the torso and arms. Wanted to elongate the torso and I kept going with that. Some other shapes suggested itselves and yeah, so now it's got a new head and shoulders.

Kinda like this version better but I will finish the other one too.

WIP Update

No idea if this is going to stay but I'm liking it at the moment. Some bits are confusing to me and bugging me atm. It's pretty tough to work this way with blurry splotches, especially looking at it up close from the initial roughs. It's really taking some time to refine the shapes and the lines even further. Either that or I just work sloooow.

There are some floating limbs that are undecided but it's there to be worked on later. We'll see how this ends up as I'm pretty determined to finish this piece.

Messing around with Pareidolia

This is what happens when I stare at something for too long, either from something I'm working on or something I'm looking at. It usually ends up spawning another idea.

Sometimes I do random copy/paste sections from various works of mine to create something new for fun, to generate ideas or to create chimaera-like creatures. However this one was a little planned because I did see a snailien-like creature in the first place.

Take yesterday's digital speed paint of the bird creature top left for example. The numbered boxes are individually copied and pasted onto another new file to create what you see for the middle and far right sections.

By copying and pasting, this exercise makes it easier to isolate and see new images seperately to give you a better idea of what you're looking at. In the box numbered 2 is a face, very vaguely what appears to be teeth and there is also an eye way up there too. I darkened some bits, added some wetness on the gum/mouth parts and white outlines somewhere to punctuate things a little more and so on. Then I got busy with the shell and that's all I got for now.

Partial Scrying of a Snailien

After spending the entire day drawing with fruitless results, I get this one when I have given up all expectations and decided to scribble a bit before going to bed that night. I love how my muse shows up whenever I'm tired. I was looking at a towel and saw this drawing on it. Stared at it for awhile to memorise it, then drew it from memory.

Some days it comes easy, but most days it's a struggle. A never ending battle against the tyrant Ego. Sometimes you gotta bore it to death in order for it to leave you alone so that the right brain can come out to play. Or in this case, too tired to even stay awake that the Ego had already fallen asleep.

And the process will repeat itself all over again. Gotta keep on keeping on.

August Apathy Too

And yet another fungal expedition yielding secrets from within the inner catacombs of my mind.

August Apathy!

Oooooh, it feels so good to finally get this drawing thing out of my system.

Space Suits (them or doesn't suit them?)

Playing around with the idea of Snailiens in a space-suit w/ space weapons. You can see the space helmet being similar to the one for the shellmech's glass casing yesterday, albeit a miniaturised version of it. I may or may not go with this idea. =P

Terrible Tuesdays

Update: Coloured in one of the shells for fun. I really had to get the coloured version out of me before I fergets it.

Playing around with more Snailien shellmech concepts. I was looking through some art books upside down so that I can see things in another way and I caught a glimpse of tentacles peering through a glass which is similar to the image at the bottom. It reminded me of a Snailien that I did before so I had to do it. I think the one eye looks creepier than two.

Demotivational Post

"Why do it today when you can do it tommorrow?" -- A (un)wise snailien saying.

Free Room! and Bored

Oops! Posting a little bit late tonight. Was over at bro's haus with Ved drawing for our weekly get togethers. Oh well. Still managed to get this guy drawn tonight despite being late with the scanning part. =S

Playing around with the idea of a snailien with a nursery on its back. A class of snailien that are giant living buildings. For now one of the names floating for it will be "Lieu'tenant Leisure" or even a "Landlord" can go in there somewhere. Har har. I like it so there.

The bottom half for its body isn't really shown as its undecided. Still figuring that part out and may fix it up later on Photoshop as the whole drawing looks kinda weird to me. So for now just pretend that it's coming out from a hole in the ground. =P

Slugs of War!

Nah. Too much Gears of War 2 tonight. You can tell eh? Snipers and Grinders would suit them though. And maybe a Mauler, or whatever those guys are called with the shield and spike weapon.

Shellacking Shenanigans Again

Was partly inspired by looking at the bathroom floor tiles as part of the scrying process. And no, I'm not on drugs (does coffee count?). If you stare at something with an abstract pattern to it long enough, you'll find something eventually. Since I was thinking of snailiens at the time, it came out as a snailien.

Shellacking Shenanigans

I woke up late today so the post is coming sooner than later. As long as I beat the midnight deadline then it's all good. I just wanted it done sooner than later though. It's almost as I'm fearful of skipping the daily posting habit. =P

Drew this while watching a hockey game on TV. I'm able to channel in all the things that I love about the dynamic sport into these drawings. It's usually drawn from memory of player interviews that I read online as part of my news reading, just all the things they've said and their love for the sport and then being able to apply their energy/ love to my art afterwards. Every time I look up at the screen it's a constant reminder to stay positive and hope for the best. It's taking some effort but so far so good. It's also why I posted the Sidney Crosby commercial from yesterday.

The image bottom right is a battle-suit. I saw this as a glimpse of it as soon as I woke up today while laying in bed. I could see it so vividly in my mind's eye. The drawing is not exactly how it looks, what you see in your mind doesn't always translate so well but I'm still liking the fact that it happened. After a year and a half of meditations, this sort of thing is finally paying off. It's what I wanted. But then again, it could be working with dream recall as well and being able to direct it to the things I want to see or draw for today. *knocks on wood* I hope this keeps up indefinitely.

The stomach-shell is part inspired by another drawing using the same design. I'll scan that in next post.

Mmmrawr

First image was drawn in with a red bic pen as I ran out of blacks and blues. Sketched that outside in the beautiful weather today.

Second image is a revised edition of one of the snailiens in the lineup. Currently a work-in-progress. The method I'm using is taking some time with the brush opacity settings down to 25%. That way I'm building everything up over layers and layers. First starting off with big broad strokes to get the shapes in, to block it in a way, then progressing into smaller brush sizes until I'm able to refine the edges/add details. We'll see how that method works out in the end.

March Madness 14

This piece came out easily and effortlessly.

I was over at bro's tonight with Eric and Dax who were all working on their worky work stuff. Being with these guys is just indescribable in terms of the energy and the kinship as well as stress relief. Couldn't imagine life being better without them and their support.

I don't agree with how some of the things turn out on this piece, but I could care less. Time to stop worrying about all the pettiness pertaining to art and just let it be. As it is. For what it is. Also, in my mind was the idealised version of it with its uber awesome to-die-for line art and stuff like that. Didn't happen? Oh well, better luck next time! They are however, my guides for a future destination. Of course I want to be there right away, right now, but it's silly with all these excuse-atrons that we come up with for not posting art frequently on the blogs. If this was 2009, then yeah, I wouldn't be posting this up because of how frigid I think it looks to me. Not this year! Ego self-destruct FTW!

This is the new year. Time to move on with the petty fears and grow naturally! For good or worse. Ahem~~~~

Anyways, these are just drawings of Shellmechs that I'm cooking up for the Snailiens. By no means they are the final designs for these mechs. I just felt like drawing and seeing what comes out. Hope you likey. =B
